NEDFi's Corporate Social Responsibility

The term Corporate Social Responsibility [CSR] is a concept of
business ethics based on the idea that companies have stakeholders
who are broadly defined as anyone or group affected by the
activities of the company. The idea of CSR is that a company should
be accountable to its stakeholders. The CSR focus, therefore,
is on
how companies should identify and "engage" stakeholders
and how they should determine, measure and report the impact of
their activities on others.
Different organizations have framed different definitions -
although there is considerable common ground between them. One
widely accepted definition is that CSR is about how companies manage
the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on
society.
Although, NEDFi is predominantly engaged in lending, NEDFi has
also taken up activities for the development of the region, which,
to a great extent, fulfills NEDFi' Corporate Social Responsibility.
NEDFi has been contributing for various charitable causes like
support to orphanages, mentally ill and abandoned women etc. as
activities under Corporate
Social Responsibility. Some of the
activities in which NEDFi has been involved in recent times are :

Contribution to Tsunami / CM's Relief Fund;
- Contribution to Child welfare/National Child Congress
/Children's book festival;
- Help for orphanage;
- Helping organisations working for abandoned and mentally ill
women;
- NEDFi Haat : providing a platform to the artisans of the North
East and helping them marketing their products;
- New Enterprise creation: Creating qualified technically
skilled entrepreneurs from the region for diversified fields by
means of Entrepreneur Development Programmes ( EDPs) in
collaboration with IIE and CIPET;
- R&D centre : Creating revolution in the field of medicinal
and aromatic crops, by which NEDFi is venturing in to innovative
areas;
- NER Databank : Information source of NER Data. A very user
friendly web page on North East data which NEDFi has created in
collaboration National Informatics Centre;
- Databank quarterly : A quarterly journal for the policy
makers, students, economist, and researchers on sector specific
topics like, power, tea, health, education, banking etc which is a
very useful source of information in journal form and which is in
great demand among users;

- Skill upgradation workshops : Workshops organised by inviting
experts and resource persons from outside, in various fields like
handloom, handicrafts etc in selected centres of the North East
where skilled people are available in those specific sectors.
