NEDFi’s CSR Activities
In accordance with section 135 of Companies Act 2013, the Corporation constituted a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Committee of the Board. The Members of the Committee as on 31st March, 2020 are as under:

The CSR expenditure incurred during FY 20 was Rs. 1.86 Crore against the minimum mandatory norm of Rs. 1.57 Crore, being 2% of average net profit of three preceding financial years i.e FY17, FY18 and FY19. Separate report on CSR Policy has been enclosed as a part of Annual Report .

Highlights of CSR and Developmental activities undertaken during the period from April 2019 to March 2020 are as under:
- CSR Activities
- Capacity Building: 20 training programmes were organized by the Corporation during the FY 2019-20 covering 453 beneficiaries.
- Marketing Support: The Corporation facilitated marketing linkage to a total of 1539 artisans of which 320 artisans participated in 28 exhibitions and 1219 artisans were facilitated market linkage through Craft Showrooms of the Corporation located at Khetri, Guwahati, Noida and Aizawl.
- Craft Gallery at NEDFi House, Guwahati : The Craft Gallery was set up on 11th January, 2019 to create awareness on water hyacinth craft products and thereby to facilitate market linkage to the craft producers. Apart from water hyacinth craft products the Craft Gallery markets craft products of all the 8 states of the region. The Craft Gallery is being managed by NE-SHILP, a society promoted by NEDFi to facilitate market linkage to the artisans and weavers of the NER.
- NEDFi Haat at Rupnagar, Guwahati: The 2nd Edition of NEDFi Haat at Rupnagar, Guwahati was constructed by renovating an old building offered by Mahila Imdad Committee. The building has a ground floor and a first floor, each with 2700 sq.ft in area. The first exhibition in the Haat was organized from 9th to 13th April, 2019 as Pre-Rongali Bihu Mela, to create awareness about the location on the occasion of Bohag Bihu, as the event was very popular in its earlier location at Ambari, Guwahati. On the occasion of NEDFi foundation day, the North East Startup & Craft Fair 2019 was also organised at the Haat from 9th to 13th August 2019. The exhibition was inaugurated by Secretary, Ministry of DoNER.
- Developmental Activities
- NEDFi Craft Incubation Centre, Khetri: The Craft incubation Centre conducted five nos of training programmes on sital pati craft, cardamom fiber craft as well as on handloom weaving for around 98 artisans.
Apart from the above mentioned training programmes, the Craft Incubation Centre facilitated a craft exposure visit to a group of 7 students from National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmadabad from 24th November to 4th December,2019 which included visit to rural clusetrs, too.
In addition, the Craft Incubation Centre facilitates Common Service Facility to the nearby artisans and weavers who come for water hyacinth craft and banana fibre based handloom work on a regular basis. NE-SHILP provides market linkage to such production through its showrooms located at NEDFi House, Guwahati, IEML, Greater Noida as well as one at Khetri Centre itself.
A team of officials from Jammu Kashmir Development Finance Corporation (JKDFC) visited the Centre on 15th November, 2019. During the visit they had detailed discussion with the artisans associated with water hyacinth and banana fiber product. They also learned about the whole process of the activities including training and marketing of the products through show room, exhibition, etc.
The Centre was also visited by Sri Indevar Pandey, IAS, Addl. Secretary, Ministry of DoNER, Govt. of India on 25th January, 2020. He appreciated the activities adopted by the Corporation for craft incubation, training, production facility as well as market linkage under one roof.
- NEDFi R & D Centre from MAP, Khetri:In addition to cultivation of existing variety of citronella and lemongrass plantation, the Centre is cultivating a new variety of Lemongrass (JorLab- L8) developed by the North East Institute of Science & Technology, Jorhat. The Centre also facilitated exposure visit to 108 students from various colleges and institutions. The Centre also provided technical assistance on cultivation of Citronella and Lemongrass to local farmers. Apart from this, extension and commercial cultivation of Assam Indigo is being taken up in a 1 bigha of land at the Centre where 2000 seedlings and 288 nos of poly bag were planted. The Centre is also cultivating Lac , a plant for natural dye, on trial basis.
- NEDFi R & D Centre for MAP, Nagicherra, Tripura:The R&D Centre at Nagicherra, Tripura conducted 1 training programme on Medicinal & Aromatic Plants covering 35 beneficiaries to create awareness on MAP and other potential crops like stevia, citronella etc. The Centre is also doing cultivation of high yielding variety of Lemongrass (JorLab L8), Red and white sandal seedling, patchouli, stevia, naga chilly and other medicinal and herbal plants.
- Other Misc. activities: During the period, the Corporation extended flood relief support to the flood victims of Kamrup Rural district of Assam covering 700 flood victims.
- Signing of MOU with ICICI Foundation:-
ICICI Foundation for Inclusive Growth,(ICICI Foundation), a charitable trust, was founded by ICICI group in early 2008 with its office at ICICI Bank Towers, Bandra Kurla Complex, Bandra East, Mumbai. The organization pools CSR fund from its group companies and executes the CSR projects and programmes. Most of its activities had been in training programmes on vocational skills. It has a centre for imparting vocational training in Guwahati too. The foundation has initiated intervention in craft sector. In South India they have taken up activities on banana bark based handicraft sector and one similar programme was initiated in Goalpara district of Assam by providing training to the beneficiaries on making of handicraft items from Banana bark. They approached NEDFi for collaboration on capacity building as well as market linkage. After detailed discussion an MOU was signed between NEDFi and ICICI Foundation on 27th February, 2020 at NEDFi House Convention Centre, Guwahati.
NEDFi has been engaging itself in various developmental and promotional activities of NER since its inception, which has helped to build its image as a developmental financial institution of the North Eastern Region of India. This policy on Corporate Social Responsibility is an effort to make NEDFi’s CSR activities more effective and meaningful and to channelize it in a manner which will enable this Corporation to touch more lives and bring more smiles to people.
